Folks, I may have stumbled upon one of my favorite sandwiches of all time. I call it the Garlic Gorgon Chicken, a mix of Nashville hot chicken, blue cheese, and what weak fools would call far too much garlic.

Why this sandwich? Well, I often get a craving for chicken wings with blue cheese dressing, but of course wings get expensive and are never filling. So today after a trip to the gym, I stopped at the store, picked up some cheap chicken breasts, a small thing of blue cheese, and some hero bread.

At first, I wanted to make a simple hot chicken sandwich. But upon crafting the blue cheese spread, as I thought to add a pinch of garlic, the top of the bottle came off and about a quarter of a cup of garlic powder spilled into my food processor. At first I thought about scooping it out, but then I figured: “Why not see what happens?”

The result: A sandwich with soft bread that’s a little spicy and a little creamy, and one that packs a powerful punch with every bite. Follow along with my eyeballed recipe below to make your own Garlic Gorgon Chicken sandwich.



  • 2 thin chicken cutlets, skinless
  • 5 oz. gorgonzola cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp. sour cream
  • Garlic powder (to taste, but the more the merrier)
  • Frank’s Red Hot hot sauce (just buy the biggest bottle you can find)
  • 1 hero roll


  • Oven or air fryer
  • Food processor
  • Pan
  • Big bread knife


  1. Marinate your chicken cutlets in the Frank’s Red Hot. Use Frank’s, the king of hot sauces; if you’re a Louisiana or Texas Pete supporter, you are valid as well. Don’t use Cholula.
  2. Bake or air fry your chicken breasts to perfection. I can’t tell you how to do this. My chicken goes into the air fryer for 20 minutes at 400°F.
  3. While your chicken cooks, add 3 oz. of your gorgonzola along with your milk and sour cream to your food processor. Make sure you have some extra of all of these ingredients set aside in case you need to adjust the consistency of your spread.
  4. Set your food processor to high and start whipping your spread. If it’s too thick, add some more sour cream. If it’s too runny, add some more cheese.
  5. Add your garlic powder to the spread. Then add more. No, really. Add garlic powder until you think it’s too much, and then add more. Make it look like an accident. In fact, turn your garlic powder bottle upside down and go “Whoops!”
  6. Keep blending the garlic gorgonzola spread until everything is mixed to your liking.
  7. When you pull the chicken out of the oven or air fryer, it should have some nice blackened spots and the hot sauce should have baked into the flesh. Set the chicken aside to rest.
  8. While the chicken is resting, get your pan nice and hot. Cut your hero roll lengthwise, but not all the way through. Then toast the roll on your pan until the bread is nice and golden brown. (You can butter your bread if you like.)
  9. Slather a heaping helping of garlic gorgonzola spread on both sides of your bread. Then, take your chicken cutlets and place them in your bread.
  10. Add hot sauce to your liking.
  11. Shove this sandwich in your hole.

I promise you, you will find yourself marveling at how the garlic works with the rest of the sandwich. Sure, your significant others may not want to kiss you for a few weeks. But maybe, just maybe, they love you enough to grin and bear your garlic stank breath.
